Bringhurst take home plate at the DRET Primary Cup
Pupils and staff at Bringhurst Primary School have been celebrating after claiming the football plate at the DRET Primary Cup 2017.
Competing against twelve other primary academies from across the Trust, pupils went head-to-head in football and netball matches in the hope of bringing home the trophy.
A number of sporting stars were in attendance to support and cheer on the pupils, including England netball player Natalie Panagarry, ex professional footballer Darren Purse, and England International midfielder Sue Smith.
Football freestyler, Dan Magness, wowed crowds during an impressive opening ceremony at the Malcolm Arnold Academy.
Angela Watson, Headteacher at Bringhurst Primary School, said: “I am so impressed with the pupils sporting abilities at Bringhurst, everyone gave it their all.
“Well done to everyone who took part at the Spring Cup, it was a fantastic day and I know the pupils are very proud of their achievements. ”
Sporting events like this support the Trust’s aim to increase physical activity in primary schools.
Lauren Daly, Primary Sports Enrichment South Co-ordinator, said: “Sport is such an important part of our pupils’ lives. Not only does it encourage teamwork, but also teaches children about winning and losing, commitment and making friends.
“It is truly exhilarating to see the pupils compete with such pride and passion, it is a real testament to the Trust’s hard work in organizing these events”.
