Chair of Governors announcement

New Chair of Governors Announcement

We are delighted to announce that Bringhurst has a new Chair of Governors.

James Dunseath, who lives in Thorpe by Water, will be joining our Governing Body as the full time Chair from the next meeting.

Helen Stevenson, from the David Ross Education Trust, said James is a natural fit for the school.

"Any position on the Governing Body is a demanding one, and as Chair of Governors you are expected to do a great deal. Strong Chairs have to be able to scrutinise performance data, help manage the academy's financial position, lead the Governing Body, negotiate Ofsted and, critically, ensure that the views and comments of the school's whole community are listened to and acted upon.

"James has had nearly 20 years’ experience working with some of the largest financial institutions in Asia and Europe as a marketer. Crunching numbers, working with lots of different groups, enhancing reputations was at the heart of his role - experiences that will stand him in good stead for this new challenge.

"After looking at the skills and abilities of the school's already strong Governing Body, it is clear that he is the right fit for the needs of Bringhurst.

"I would also like to take this opportunity to thank Caryl and Rachael for all they have done since  they stood in to lead the Governing Body. They have dedicated a great deal of time and effort to the post at short notice - and have achieved a great deal in that time."

Message from James

I am delighted to have this opportunity to introduce myself to all of you who are parents of children at Bringhurst School.

This is a school that has a strong reputation and offers its children a great deal. Assuming responsibility for helping to build on this and oversee the well-being and long term viability of the school is an important task, and it is one which I relish.

To do this, I have one simple principle: we are a team. As governors, parents and teachers, (not ever forgetting the pupils), all of us I hope will work together cheerfully to make the best of the school for all the children and shape it into the most effective springboard for their future lives.

I will always be open to suggestions and ideas, and I hope I can quickly become fully engaged in my duties as Chair of the Governors.

I look forward to meeting you all soon.

Meantime, my very best wishes to you all.

James Dunseath
