Sport and Enrichment News at Bringhurst Primary School

Sport at Bringhurst
The past term has been an extremely busy and exciting one for sport at Bringhurst, with pupils across all year groups taking part in a wide range of competitive events, festivals, and whole-school activities. From football leagues and swimming galas to dance and charity events, our pupils have demonstrated outstanding effort, teamwork, and enthusiasm throughout.
Football Success Across the Term
The term began with our Year 3 and 4 football team kicking off their league campaign at UCC. For many pupils, this was their first experience of competitive football, and they impressed everyone with their teamwork, determination, and positive attitudes.
Our Year 5 and 6 girls’ football team also began their league campaign, playing with great enthusiasm and resilience to secure a strong fourth-place finish by the end of the season. Meanwhile, our Year 5 and 6 boys’ teams showed incredible commitment despite challenging weather conditions. Bringhurst Blue finished their campaign in 8th place, while Bringhurst Red delivered an outstanding performance, winning every match and being crowned league champions. Individual moments of brilliance included Patrick’s excellent goalkeeping and Ralph’s spectacular long-range goal from his own half.
The Year 3 and 4 team completed their league season with great determination, finishing a very respectable 6th place despite fielding a reduced squad in freezing conditions. Their performances have laid strong foundations for the future, and we are excited to see how they continue to develop.
Festivals, Events, and Enrichment
Pupils also enjoyed a variety of enrichment opportunities beyond competitive sport. A group of Year 5 and 6 pupils attended the Countdown to Milan 2026 event at Malcolm Arnold Academy, where they had the unforgettable opportunity to meet Winter Olympic and Paralympic athletes and take part in fun, inclusive sporting activities.
Over 20 KS2 pupils represented Bringhurst at the RISE Gymnastics Festival at Active Rutland Hub in Oakham. Pupils performed with confidence and enthusiasm, showcasing the routines they had learned. A big thank you goes to Mrs Hambleton for supporting the event.
Dance and Whole-School Participation
Sport and physical activity were celebrated across the whole school during our Dance Takeover Day. Every class took part in energetic and engaging dance sessions led by Sarah from Rutland Youth Dance Academy. Pupils loved learning new moves and expressing themselves creatively through dance. Excitement is already building for this year’s Spotlight Dance Show, with practices set to begin in the New Year.
Swimming Achievements
Swimming also played a key role this term. Twenty-three KS2 pupils took part in the Rutland Sport Swimming Gala, a fantastic achievement in itself. All swimmers gave their best, with a special mention to Toby (Year 5), who won two gold medals in the Boys’ 25m Front Crawl and Backstroke events.
Additionally, 16 pupils represented the school at the Year 5 and 6 Rutland Team Swimming event, competing superbly against strong opposition. Our younger swimmers performed exceptionally well against older pupils, helping Bringhurst achieve 4th and 8th place overall.
Santa Run Success
The term concluded with the hugely popular Santa Run, which brought the whole school together in a fun and festive celebration. Pupils showed incredible energy and enthusiasm, supported brilliantly by Mrs Dent, whose leadership made the event a huge success. Santa even made a special appearance, confirming that everyone had been on the nice list! Thanks to the generosity of our school community, we raised over £1,700 for the DRET Inspiration Fund.
Looking Ahead
We are incredibly proud of all our pupils for their effort, sportsmanship, and positive attitudes throughout the term. Sport at Bringhurst continues to thrive, offering inclusive opportunities that build confidence, teamwork, and a lifelong love of physical activity.
We look forward to even more exciting sporting events in the coming term.
